Irish actor Jack Reynor will be starring in Lee Cronin’s upcoming reboot of The Mummy, which will begin shooting next week in Ireland. The film is slated for release on April 17, 2026.
Producers for the scary movie include New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse, along with Cronin’s Doppelgangers. The director had earlier made Evil Dead Rise, another horror flick for New Line. In December of 2024, Cronin was quoted in The Hollywood Reporter as saying that the upcoming film “will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
While few details are known about the story, it’s reported that Reynor will be playing the role of a husband and father victimized by the supernatural. The actor had earlier appeared in Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) and two 2016 offerings, Sing Street and Free Fire. He was also seen in the cast of The Perfect Couple, a popular Netflix mystery series that debuted in 2024.
The Mummy franchise includes a 1999 movie starring Brendan Fraser, plus two sequels and a reboot starring Tom Cruise that rose from the grave in 2017 only to sink back down.
The 1999 film by Universal was loosely based on a 1932 movie with the same name.
The modernized version followed the adventures of treasure hunter Rick O’Connor, who travels to Hamunaptra, The City of the Dead, with a librarian and her older brother, where they accidentally bring to life a ancient Egyptian high priest named Imhotep, who wreaks havoc when his supernatural powers are roused. Filming took place in the UK and the Sahara Desert in Morocco, where the cast weathered blistering heat and sandstorms. The Mummy was the sixth highest grossing film in 1999, earning $418 million worldwide on a production budget of $80 million.
