According to several reputable sources, Johnny Depp and Andrea Riseborough are poised to star in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a retelling of the classic 1843 story by Charles Dickens. Directed by Ti West from a script by Nathaniel Halpern, the film is scheduled to be released by Paramount on November 13, 2026.

Paramount describes the upcoming production as “a thrilling ghost story set in Dickens’ London, following one man’s supernatural journey to face his past, present and future and fight for a second chance.”

The Dickens story featuring Bob Marley and Ebenezer Scrooge has been adapted for the screen many times over the years, such as a 2009 version starring Jim Carrey and The Muppet Christmas Carol that debuted in 1982. In 1954, a critically acclaimed TV adaptation that starred Frederic March and Basil Rathbone.  FX also created a miniseries that was released in 2019. More recently, Warner Bros. announced it will create an adaptation written and directed by Robert Eggers that will see William Dafoe playing the role of the miserly Scrooge.

Johnny Depp, who in 2022 famously won a defamation lawsuit involving his ex-wife Amber Heard, has since been keeping a rather low profile, though he played Louis XV in the 2023 film Jeanne du Barry. He also directed and starred in the 2024 biopic Modi, Three Days on the Wings of Madness. He will also be seen in the upcoming production of Day Drinker, also starring Penelope Cruz.

Ti West, who will direct Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, came to prominence with his slasher film X, which was released in 2022 by A24. It was part of a trilogy that included Pearl and MaXXXine.  Before his breakout film X, West had directed a number of movies in the horror genre, including The Roost, Trigger Man, The House of the Devil, and The Innkeepers, as well as In a Valley of Violence, a Western.
