Jamie Lee Curtis, who won an Oscar, is the favored choice to star in the upcoming Murder, She Wrote film at Universal, as Deadline reported. Although no deal has been reached, it is believed that she will be playing the role of Jessica Fletcher, which was popularized by Angela Lansbury in the hit series that ran for 12 seasons on CBS.

The script is by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who are the duo behind the Craig Gillespie-directed drama Dumb Money, the production of Murder, She Wrote is being overseen by Lord Miller and Amy Pascal.

From 1984 to 1996, Lansbury was the starring cast in one of the most successful and longest-running TV shows in history. Jessica Fletcher, who was a retired schoolteacher, now writes successful mystery novels that demonstrate her uncanny ability to solve real-life murders.
