Former United States President Barack Obama isn’t just a great leader, but also he has done great works through his film production, Higher Ground by producing three remarkable films that his label helped produce this year – the acclaimed Colman Domingo-led biopic “Rustin,” the Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali-led end of world thriller “Leave the World Behind” and the musician documentary “American Symphony”.
“I’m biased since these movies were produced by Higher Ground, but these are in fact three of the best movies I saw this year,” Obama wrote.
Now, he announced his annual tradition of Top 10 films of 2023.
He released a list of ten other films he considers the year’s best: Alexander Payne’s school drama “The Holdovers,” Matt Johnson’s corporate biopic “Blackberry,” Christopher Nolan’s depiction of father of atomic bomb, “Oppenheimer,” Cord Jefferson’s Black Cultural satire, “American Fiction,” Justine Triet’s French courtroom thriller,“Anatomy of a Fall,” Hirokazu Kore-eda’s three structures “Monster,” Celine Song’s romance, “Past Lives,” Ben Affleck’s Nike drama “Air,” Nida Manzoor’s action-comedy, “Polite Society” and “A.V. Rockwell’s family drama, “A Thousand and One”.
Notable omissions from Obama’s list include “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” ” Poor Things,” “Maestro” and “The Color Purple.”
Obama has shared a list of his favorite films every year since 2018, his first full year out of office. Obama Obama also mentioned the strikes that dominated entertainment headlines this year, saying: “Earlier this year, writers and actors went on strike to advocate for better working conditions and protections. It led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better. Here are some films that reflect their hard work over the last year.”
Last year, Obama’s selected “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “Aftersun.”
