Ryan Coogler, the filmmaker who created the movie “Sinners“, is in the process of creating an “X-Files” reboot for television. It has been for some time now that Coogler has been assigned to write the pilot, executive produce, and possibly direct the new take on the iconic 1990s series.
In a recent interview with Variety, Coogler stated that his mother’s passion for the original series is one of the main reasons for this reboot.
“Like my relationship with “Rocky” with my dad, “The X-Files” is one of those things with my mom. My mom means the world to me – she’s actually here tonight – so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”
Danielle Deadwyler, an acclaimed actress known for her roles in “Carry-On” and “I Saw The TV Glow“, has recently been linked to playing one of the leads on the show, Cooger was asked about her potential involvement to which he said: “I can neither confirm or deny”.
When he was asked if David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson would return to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the original series, he responded the same way.
In the first series, two characters investigated unsolved cases that involved paranormal phenomena, which ranged from a global conspiracy about alien colonization to more monster-of-the-week events. 218 episodes were created in total throughout eleven seasons, and two feature films were also created.
Comments have been made regarding a re-release of “Sinners” for Halloween in select IMAX theaters from October 30th to November 5th.
