@Barbenheimer – Margot Robbie in Barbie and Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer
The nominations for the 2024 SAG Awards have been announced. Oppenheimer and Barbie are leading the film categories with four nods each, including in the top category of best cast. Succession, meanwhile, has received the most recognition in the television categories.
Besides best cast, Oppenheimer is also nominated in the categories of best actor (Cillian Murphy), supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.) and supporting actress (Emily Blunt). Barbie, meanwhile, also received nods in the categories of best actress (Margot Robbie) and supporting actor (Ryan Gosling).
Killers of the Flower Moon and American Fiction earned three nominations each, including in the best cast category. In addition, the former’s Lily Gladstone is nominated for best actress and Robert De Niro is competing for best supporting actor.
American Fiction‘s Jeffrey Wright is nominated for best actor and Sterling K. Brown is competing for best supporting actor. Other movies that received two nods are Nyad, The Holdovers, Poor Things and Maestro.
On the television side, Succession leads with five nominations, including one for best ensemble in a drama series. Its fellow nominees in the top drama category are The Crown, The Gilded Age, The Last of Us and The Morning Show.
Succession‘s lead actors – Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Matthew MacFadyen – received best drama actor nods. Sarah Snook, meanwhile, received a best drama actress nomination.
In addition to the drama ensemble award, The Last of Us and The Morning Show are each up for two additional awards. The Last of Us‘ Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are competing for the best actor and actress trophies, respectively, in a drama series. The Morning Show’s Billy Crudup and Jennifer Aniston are also nominated in the same categories.
Ted Lasso and The Bear each scored four nods in the comedy categories, including best comedy series. Fellow best comedy series ensemble nominees are Abbott Elementary, Barry and Only Murders in the Building.
In addition, Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein and Jason Sudeikis are in contention for the best actor in a comedy series award., Hannah Waddingham is also nominated for best comedy actress.

Beef stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong are both up for awards for their roles in the limited series. The show also landed a stunt ensemble performance nod.
Many nominees in the film and television categories were similar to those that competed recently at the Golden Globe Awards. The main differences were The Color Purple, which was not nominated in the Globes’ main movie races, which many considered a snub. Poor Things, which took home several top honors at the Globes, only earned two acting nods from the Screen Actors Guild.
There were several other notable snubs among this year’s SAG contenders. Leonardo DiCaprio was overlooked for his starring role in Killers of the Flower Moon, as was Greta Lee, who received acclaim for her performance in Past Lives. May December, one of the year’s most acclaimed movies, was completely shut out, as stars Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman and Charles Melton failed to garner nominations.
Warner Bros. Discovery had the most SAG Award nominations of any media company, as it received 20 for its films and shows. Its group includes The Last of Us, Succession, The Color Purple and Barbie. It was followed by Netflix with 12 nods and Apple with 11.
The SAG Awards have been known historically to provide the biggest clues as to which titles would go on to receive nominations for the Academy Awards, which will be unveiled next weekend. The guild awards also predict how those contenders might fare on Oscars night. Many of SAG’s members are also part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the organization that hosts the Oscars.
Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani announced this year’s nominees this morning on Instagram Live on the SAG Awards and Netflix accounts. Rae is a double SAG Awards nominee this year, as part of the casts of American Fiction and Barbie,
The 30th annual SAG Awards will air live on Netflix on Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium.
The ceremony comes after a year of contention between Hollywood studios and film and television actors who are part of SAG-AFTRA. The union, which combines the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, reached a tentative agreement with studios in November for a new labor contract. The agreement ended a four-month strike.
