Actor Seth Rogen has made it clear that he’s not planning to work with his old friend and frequent collaborator James Franco in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct made against him. A Britain Sunday Times article discussing how Rogen’s films have not aged well and contain problematic jokes about sex and women featured an interview in which Rogen made his position clear after being called out last month by Charlyne Yi about his role in trying to bribe her to remain on The Disaster Artist after incidents with Franco.
Rogen acknowledged that the allegations have affected his personal friendship with Franco in addition to his professional relationship, and agreed when asked that it was painful but “not as painful and difficult as it is for a lot of other people involved.
I have no pity for myself in this situation.
” Addressing the behavior that has prompted him to distance himself from Franco, he said, “What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.
”
It doesn’t help that, back in 2014 when he was hosting Saturday Night Live, Rogen included in his monologue a joke about an allegation that had been leveraged against Franco: “I decided to prank James Franco. I posed as a girl on Instagram, told him I was way young. He seemed unfazed. I have a date to meet him at the Ace Hotel.” Now, he seems to have gained a better perspective, sharing that “I do look back at a joke I made on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 2014 and I very much regret making that joke. It was a terrible joke, honestly.”
Rogen has had no problem courting controversy in the past, responding to Kim Jong-un’s threat to declare war on the United States if The Interview was released with the comment “People don’t usually wanna kill me for one of my movies until after they’ve paid 12 bucks for it” and making sure to clarify that he didn’t apologize after making comments that were taken by some as anti-Israel ahead of the release of An American Pickle. At this point in time and given the current climate in Hollywood, his specificity and definitive positions make a stronger and more unambiguous statement on how he views his behavior.
