HBO Max unintentionally premiered ”Alien 3: The Assembly Cut” on its service during the weekend.

Director David Fincher’s refusal to do a director’s cut for home video release created this alternate version, which is 144 minutes long, and is a full half-hour longer than the theatrical cut.

The “Assembly Cut” made its debut on the “Alien” Quadrilogy DVD box set in 2003, and it features a lot of deleted scenes, alternate takes, and different versions of important scenes, like the creature emerging from oxen instead of a dog.

The fate of various characters not seen in the theatrical are also revealed, while Ripley gets a more dignified ending without the chestburster popping out of her.

Although the film was initially rough, in 2010, the Blu-ray version was fully post-production treated with color correction and sound mixing. Some cast members even came back for ADR.

The “Aliens” Director’s Cut and “Alien Resurrection” Special Edition versions are also now streaming on the service.
