Amanda Seyfried has confirmed that “Mamma Mia!3” is going to be made! Seyfried and Meryl Streep were cast in the jukebox musical directed by Phyllida Lloyd, with Sophie Sheridan played by Seyfried and Donna Sheridan playing by Meryl Streep.
It was followed by 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding a potential third “Mamma Mia!” The movie is happening and Seyfried officially has confirmed it.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in a video shared on Reddit, Seyfried shared an update about the next Mamma Mia! sequel. “Mamma Mia! 3 is happening,” she said. “It’s going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 2038.”
Seyfried confirmed that filming for the movie has not begun yet. She expressed her desire to begin production in the summer of 2026, but she also acknowledged that it’s due to her schedule. She stated that it will require the coordination of many people’s schedules and the accuracy of the story.
“Mamma Mia!” is based on the 1999 stage musical of the same name. Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgrd, Julie Walters, and Dominic Cooper are some of the cast members in the first movie, which also features Sam Carmichael as Sam, Bill Anderson as Bill, and Rosie Mulligan as Rosie Mulligan.
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again“, in contrast, functions as both a sequel and a prequel. The movie features James as a younger Donna, and Streep and Seyfried reprise their respective roles, the cast includes Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner, Andy Garca, Josh Dylan, Alexa Davies, and other notable faces, with all five of them returning.
A release date for “Mamma Mia! 3” has not yet been announced. The first “Mamma Mia!” movie is currently streaming on Max, while “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is available to rent or purchase on streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and more.
