A24 has released the first trailer for “Marc by Sofia“, the upcoming documentary about American fashion designer Marc Jacobs, which was directed by Sofia Coppola.

Sofia Coppola’s portrait of Marc Jacobs, which is both intimate and unconventional, captures the genius and singular universe of the iconic American designer. On March 20, 2026, “Marc by Sofia” will be released in New York’s theaters, followed by nationwide release on March 27, 2026.

Jacobs’ life and career are discussed in a behind-the-scenes look in the trailer, with Jacobs and Coppola hinting at a meeting in the future. Besides snippets of Jacobs talking, the movie also features footage of Jacobs’ life, including views of his various fashion shows, private life, and so on.

he current position of Jacobs is that of head designer of his own fashion label, Marc Jacobs, and previously of a diffusion line named Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jacobs worked as the creative director for Louis Vuitton, a French design house, from 1997 until 2014.

He is widely considered to be one of the most well-known fashion designers in the world. Jacobs started designing and selling his own clothes at 15, and his work has been featured in numerous stores, including his own storefront named after himself, which has over 280 storefronts.

Coppola is in charge of both directing and producing the movie, alongside Jane Cha Cutler, R.J. Cutler, Elise Pearlstein, and Trevor Smit. Coppola’s latest movie will be her first since 2023’s “Priscilla“, which is based on the life of Priscilla Presley. Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi played roles in that film, which earned Spaeny a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.
