New Gundam Movie By Evangelion Studio Premieres in February!

The first collaboration between Khara(Producer of Rebuild of Evangelion (and the studio currently holding the rights for the Evangelion series) and Sunrise has been marked with ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuX -Beginning-,’ as previously announced.

GKIDS announced it has acquired the prologue movie, ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-,’ and it will be in North American (US and likely Canada) theaters on February 28, 2025.

The series will be written Hideaki Anno and Yoji Enokido. The director is Kazuya Tsurumaki. Anno is the creator of ‘Evangelion,’ and Enokido and Tsurumaki have worked on at least some installments of the series.

The movie is a prologue to the TV series, whose debut day is yet to be announced. The production team is likely to unveil more information soon, as the film is already screening in Japan.

After GKIDS was acquired by Toho in 2024, David Jesteadt, who remains president, stated that seeing the ‘outrageous combination of artistic talent working on such a storied series as Mobile Suit Gundam is an appointment viewing’. And he continued, “We are proud to play a part in bringing such an exciting new project to audiences in the cinematic experience that the film truly deserves.”

Here’s the synopsis of the film, “Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle. Under the entry name ‘Machu,’ she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era.”

GKIDS is reputed for distributing Japanese anime to North American audiences, including titles from Studio Ghibli and the ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ franchise. The first anime series licensed by it was ‘Dandadan,’ which premiered in Fall 2024.

Along with the upcoming anime, the Gundam franchise has declared the existence of Gundam Card Game and Gundam Assemble, a tabletop game.
