Universal Pictures dropped a new trailer for “The Odyssey”, Christopher Nolan directed the film, a movie based on Homer’s famous Greek epic, and it features Damon, Holland, Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
“There’s a bit of everything in it,” Nolan told Empire, of his desire to adapt the lengthy tale. “I mean, it truly contains all stories. As a filmmaker, you’re looking for gaps in cinematic culture, things that haven’t been done before. And what I saw is that all of this great mythological cinematic work that I had grown up with – Ray Harryhausen movies and other things – I’d never seen that done with the sort of weight and credibility that an A-budget and a big Hollywood, IMAX production could do.”
Nolan disclosed that his team shot over two million feet of film in 91 days, with the majority of the shoot taking place on the open ocean. ‘It’s vast, terrifying, wonderful, and benevolent, as the conditions change,’ he commented.
“We really wanted to capture how hard those journeys would have been for people. And the leap of faith that was being made in an unmapped, uncharted world.”
Nolan recently released the six-minute pre-credits segment for The Odyssey in certain IMAX theaters prior to showings of Sinners, One Battle After One, and James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Variety reports that the prologue features footage of the renowned Trojan Horse landing in Troy and Odysseus leading his army to victory.
