Sony Pictures has premiered the first trailer for Tom Hanks’ latest film, “A Man Called Otto,” which is an upcoming film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Swedish author Fredrik Backman.
Based on the comical and moving # 1 New York Times bestseller, “A Man Called Otto” tells the story of Otto Anderson (Tom Hanks), a grumpy widower who is very set in his ways. When a lively young family moves in next door, he meets his match in quick-witted and very pregnant Marisol, leading to an unlikely friendship that will turn his world upside-down.
Experience a funny, heartwarming story about how some families come from the most unexpected places.
The trailer introduces Otto, a man who seems to hate people, particularly when they are taking a stroll around his neighborhood, Otto hates the dogs because the four-legged animals pee on the sidewalk, angry with delivery trucks that park where they are not allowed, and furious at neighbors who get out early in the morning to exercise. Every little public demonstration of joy makes Otto frown, which leads him to a solitary life making an enemy with everyone he crosses paths with.
Otto’s icy heart begins to melt after Marisol (Mariana Treviño) moves into his block with her family.
“A Man Called Otto“ is directed by Marc Forster from an adapted script by David Mage. The duo has previously worked together in “Finding Neverland.” The film was also produced by Hanks with Rita Wilson, Gary Goetzman, and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro. Additionally, Forster, Renée Wolfe, and David Magee serve as executive producers. Besides Tom Hanks (“Philadelphia,” “Forrest Gump,” “Cast Away“) , the film stars Mariana Treviño (“Club the Cuervos“), Rachel Keller (“Fargo“) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“The Magnificent Seven”).
“A Man Called Otto” will get a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on December 25, followed by a wide release on January 13, 2023.
