Netflix has unveiled the first trailer of “Alice in Borderland” Season 2.
The Japanese science fiction thriller drama returns after two years and sees Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya return as Ryōhei Arisu and Yuzuha Usagi.
The show’s new footage sees the pair digging through Borderland in an attempt to come back to their world, and is now set in a ruined Shibuya covered in plants.
Alice in Borderland is based on a survival and thriller manga (originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday S / Weekly Shonen Sunday) by HARO ASO, directed by Shinsuke Sato and co-starring Kento Yamazaki (“Kingdom,” “The Disastrous Life of Saiki K“) and Tao Tsuchiya (“Library Wars: BOOK OF MEMORIES,” “Mare“).
Season 1, Arisu—a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man—suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive.
In this strange world, Arisu meets Usagi, a young woman who’s navigating the games alone. Together, they set out to unravel one mystery after another as they risk their lives and confront what it means to live.
Nijiro Murakami, Ayaka Miyoshi, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, Yutaro Watanabe, Tsuyoshi Abe, Sho Aoyagi and Riisa Naka will return as the recurring cast while Shinsuke Sato will serve as director and co-screenwriter alongside Yasuko Kuramitsu, and Kaata Sakamotoi will executive produce.
“We had these really large-scale scenes everyday and the world of the show is bigger than ever. I enjoyed filming the show very much and look forward to the final production”, Yamazaki previously said. Tsuchiya added, “Each shot has big set pieces, like explosions. I was able to experience it like my character Usagi, in those realistic scenes. Everyday was such a valuable experience for me.
I felt it was a really enjoyable time.”
