Netflix has released an official trailer for Ryan Murphy’s latest limited drama Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which stars Evan Peters and Niecy Nash. The series will be available for streaming on September 21.
The new trailer brings white privilege, racism and gruesome killing in the spotlight.
The film captured the life of a serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, in between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. The series exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.
Dahmer was able to go on a killing spree for a long time because authorities always tended to let him off the hook despite pleas and warnings from concerned Black neighbors and victims who had the chance to escape.
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is expected to dramatize at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go. The series will also touch on the subject of white privilege, as Dahmer — a clean-cut, good-looking white man — was repeatedly given a free pass by cops as well as by judges who were lenient when he had been charged with petty crimes.
Joining Peters are Niecy Nash (Scream Queens), Penelope Ann Miller (American Crime), Shaun J. Brown (Run), and Colin Ford (Daybreak), as well as Oscar winner Richard Jenkins.
Peters will be the second Hollywood star to attempt the role of a prolific serial killer for Netflix, with Zac Efron tackling Ted Bundy back in the streamer’s 2019, Joe Berlinger helmed scripted feature, “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
