Netflix has dropped a new trailer for Richard Linklator’s latest film, “Hit Man” which is a new dark comedy that stars Glen Powell and gives a first look at one of the biggest crowd pleasers of the festival circuit.
Based on the 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name by Skip Hollandsworth, “Hit Man” follows a Houston police associate (Powell) who disguises himself as an assassin in order to catch willing clients. After getting invested in saving one particular woman (Adria Arjona) in an abusive relationship, hijinks ensue. The film also stars Austin Amelio, Retta and Molly Bernard.
Powell captivated the audience through “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone but You,” he also collaborated with Richard Linklater and Skip Hollandsworth for the script.
A Texas filmmaker, Richard Linklater is known for his work on films including the “Before” romance trilogy, and the Oscar nominated drama “Boyhood,” in which he explored themes relating to adolescence and aging. Linklater and Powell previously collaborated on the comedy “Everybody Wants Some!!” and the animated film “Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Childhood,” also released on Netflix.
Alongside Powell and Arijona , the film also stars Austin Amelio as policeman Jasper, Retta and Sanjay Rao as two police officers Gary works for, and Evan Holtzman as Ray Masters, Maddy’s husband, with Molly Bernard and Mike Markoff also appearing in supporting roles.
“Hit Man” is produced by Linklater, Michael Blizzard for Detour Pictures, Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman for Aggregate Films, and Powell with his production company BarnStorm Productions.
“Hit Man“ gained attention at the Venice Film Festival in last September, also went to other festival circuits, Toronto Film Festival, New York Film Festival and now, Sundance Film Festival.
It will be released on Netflix on June 7 in the U.S. and other select countries with a limited theatrical release prior.
