Neon revealed the trailer of “It Was Just An Accident“, which is a film that was directed by Jafar Panahi and won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The distributor has determined that the release date in New York will be October 15 and in Los Angeles will be October 17, following stops at TIFF and the New York Film Festivals.
Vahid Mubasseri portrays a man who believes he has found the person who tortured him when he was imprisoned for asking for his wages. He seeks revenge by abducting him and begins to bury him alive in the desert.
In order to be absolutely sure, he identifies a wedding photographer (Maryam Adshari) who was in jail with him, and asks her to confirm the man’s identity – even though she was currently taking photos with a bride (Hades Pakbaten) and groom (Majid Panahi).
The film also stars Mohamad Polielyasmehr, Georges Hashemzadea, Ebrahim Azizzi, Delmaz Najafi and Afssaneh Najamabadi. It is a Les Films Pelléas and Jafar Panahi Production from Iran/France and Luxembourg.
Panahi, who won Berlin’s top prize for 2015’s Taxi and Venice’s top prize for 2000’s The Circle, drew inspiration from his own experience in an Iranian prison during his time protesting the arrest of other Iranian filmmakers.
