Disney has given fans a magical clip of their highly anticipated live-action version of Snow White, which is about the new song “Waiting on a Wish” sung by Rachel Zegler, composed by La La Land and The Greatest Showman composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
The clip captured the character’s aspirations for a bright future and also a refreshing take on a musical moment that preserves the spirit of the 1937 animated classic. Snow White runs away into the woods and encounters the seven dwarves. Zegler displays her vocal prowess with ‘Waiting for a Wish’. The song is set to be one of several new additions to the film’s soundtrack, enhancing the emotional depth of this beloved story.
Snow White is also seen meeting love interest Jonathan (Andrew Burnap) before launching an offensive on the Evil Queen, saying: ‘The queen stole everything from all of us, it’s time to restore our kingdom. This is our kingdom and now we’re here to take it back.’ Zegler previously revealed that even the classic ‘fairest of them all’ quote has been given a modern makeover. ‘Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?’ Snow White’s evil stepmother, the Queen, asks her mystic wall hanging in the 1937 version of the movie.
Some of the original songs by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey, including “Heigh-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work,” also appear in the remake.
Alongside Zegler, the film also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan. The original “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is considered Disney’s first major successful animated feature and kicked off the studio’s line-up of fairytale animated features.
The remake has faced controversy due to set photos, resort talk, pandemic-related delays, and comments made by its two stars. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
Snow White opens in cinemas March 21st.
