Disney+ unveiled an exciting, brand-new trailer and poster today to celebrate the annual Star Wars fan holiday. The thrilling, suspenseful live-action series ‘The Acolyte‘ will debut on Tuesday, June 4, with the first two episodes being only available on Disney+.
A respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) and a dangerous warrior from his past are pitted against each other during an investigation into a shocking crime spree in ‘The Acolyte.’
The series explores the High Republic era, which takes place centuries before George Lucas’ first prequel, “The Phantom Menace.” Amandla Stenberg stars as a former Jedi apprentice, while Carrie-Anne Moss and “Squid Game” breakout Lee Jung-jae play Jedi masters in a mystery thriller set during a time when the dark side begins to disrupt the light side of the Force.
In this trailer, Mae, Sol, Venestra, Jecki, Indara, Yord, Kelnacca and Mother Aniseya are among those featured, but to the right of Sol is a mysterious figure clad in all black and wielding the red lightsaber we’re betting is the same one featured in the trailers.
The series also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The George Lucas-inspired Star Wars series was created by Leslye Headland and she is an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef.
Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.
Headland is secretive about the newcomer beyond the intriguing and fearsome face seen in the final moments. “I hope audiences embrace the duality that exists in every character in the show,” Headland says. “The show is an onion. Each episode peels away to reveal something else. I hope the experience of watching it is both suspenseful and satisfying.”
The Acolyte was scored by award-winning composer Michael Abels, who has worked on ‘Get Out‘ and ‘Us.’
