The Housemaid | Official Trailer | Starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, Directed by Paul Feig

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are sharing their secrets in the first official trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller, The Housemaid. Seyfried encourages Sweeney to make herself at home when the latter admits she needs the titular job in order to survive.

The trailer plays against Sabrina Carpenter’s hit pop song, Please Please Please. It follows Sweeney’s character, Millie, as she interviews for the eponymous housemaid position. Seyfried’s character, Nina, then hires Millie for the job. Millie cooks, cleans and helping out around the house, before things take a sinister turn.

Bridesmaids director Paul Feig helmed The Housemaid. Rebecca Sonnenshine wrote the script for the latter film. The drama is based on Frieda McFadden’s 2022 novel of the same name. Besides Sweeney and Seyfried, the new movie also stars Brandon Sklenar, Elizabeth Perkins and Michele Morrone.

Producers for the thriller include Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, alongside Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden and Alex Young served as executive producers on the film.

The Housemaid follows Millie, a young woman who finds herself working as a housekeeper for the wealthy Winchester family. Trying to find her footing after a brief stint in jail, Millie works diligently inside the family’s house. The titular character becomes closer to the couple, Nina and Andrew (Sklenar), the longer she works for them.

As Millie starts to get more familiar with the Winchesters, she soon sees behind the facade of the seemingly perfect family. The couple’s new employee finds herself unraveling in the dark secrets that lurk beyond the family’s decadence.

While at the event, Sweeney told the crowd that she was a big fan of the source material. “I’m a big book lover — I love reading books,” the Anyone but You star said.

The actress then praised McFadden’s Housemaid trilogy. “I could not put it down. I ended up reading all three in one week,” Sweeney added, “There’s characters that are flawed, and they are messy.”

Lionsgate will releases The Housemaid in theaters on December 19.
