An official trailer for an indie revenge thriller called “Tornado“ has been released by IFC Films, which is starring Tim Roth, Jack Lowden, Takehiro Hira and Kôki.

The daughter of a Japanese puppeteer is entangled in a violent criminal gang when her show crosses paths with a crime gang led by Sugarman and his son Little Sugar. When her father’s puppet Samurai show is attacked by this notorious gang, Tornado vows to seek vengeance and forge her own destiny by stealing the gang’s ill-gotten gold.

Starring Japanese model / actress Kôki (aka Mitsuki Kimura) as leading lady Tornado, along with Tim Roth, Takehiro Hira, Jack Lowden, Douglas Russell, Rory McCann, and Alex Macqueen. Okay this looks legitimately badass – another killer vengeance tale.

Here’s the synopsis : Set in the rugged landscape of 1790s Britain, Tornado is a young and determined Japanese woman who finds herself caught in a perilous situation when she and her father’s traveling puppet Samurai show crosses paths with a gang of ruthless criminals led by Sugarman, and his ambitious son Little Sugar. In an attempt to create a new life for herself, Tornado seizes the opportunity to take matters into her own hands and steal the gold from their most recent heist. With her father murdered by the gang and her life in grave danger, Tornado races against time to escape a violent demise and avenge her father’s death. 

The director and writer of A tornado is British filmmaker John Maclean, who was having directed Slow West and other short films and music videos in the past.

This film had its initial premiere at the 2025 Glasgow Film Festival earlier this year, and it will also be screened in the UK this month. IFC Films will debut Maclean’s “Tornado” film in select US theaters starting on May 30th, 2025.
