Paramount‘s Cinema Con presentation covered many of the studio’s most eagerly-anticipated movies, including Edgar Wright‘s “The Running Man” and Kendrick Lamar’s buzzy untitled collaboration with Trey Parker and Matt Stone. “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” was the most anticipated film on Paramount’s slate by default, and the studio opted to hold onto its top pick.

Ethan Hunt is stooping to great lengths to accomplish what could be his final adventure in the new “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” trailer, Ethan and his crew are putting forth their best efforts to prevent The Entity from being unleashed and sparking a nuclear war. Alongside Tom Cruise, the ensemble cast of “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett.

The video demonstrates some of the major action scenes from the sequel, such as Ethan is jumping onto a plane while it flies through the sky, while also hinting at a change in the relationship between him and Kittridge (Henry Czerny), which implies they are more allies than enemies.

Kittridge has been elusive throughout the “Mission: Impossible” movies. Although he wasn’t a full-fledged villain in the original 1996 movie or “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning“, he’s often been hostile towards Ethan, trying to control Cruise’s agent. The possibility that Ethan and Kittridge are working together in “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” indicates the magnitude of the threat facing the world this time around, with Ethan being the only person who can be trusted to prevent destruction on a global scale.

Ethan’s behavior in the past seven movies has often been rogue or outside the boundaries of what government agencies would consider acceptable. Now that Kittridge is in his corner, Holt McCallany’s new character asks incredulously, ‘You gave him an aircraft carrier?’ McCallany is one of several new cast members featured in the trailer, along with Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, and Katy O’Brian.

Paramount will release “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” in theaters on May 23, 2025.
