Enduring such typical adolescent angst as balancing school with family dynamics, friendships and crushes is difficult enough for most teenagers. But those challenges are becoming even more amplified for the young female protagonists in the new horror comedy, My Best Friend’s Exorcism.

The film’s main characters, who are played by Elsie Fisher, Amiah Miller, Cathy Ang and Rachel Ogechi Kanu, must grapple with an otherworldly demon that takes residence in one of their bodies and refuses to leave. As a result, her friends must set out to prove that they’re just as much of a force to be reckoned with as the unwanted deadly intruder.

The thriller was written and produced by Jenna Lamia, who based the script on author Grady Hendrix’s 2016 bestselling novel of the same name. The screen adaptation was directed by Damon Thomas (Killing Eve, Penny Dreadful).

Fisher and Miller, as well as Ang and Kanu, generously took the time recently to talk about starring in My Best Friend’s Exorcism during two exclusive group interviews over Zoom. You can watch the videos here, and read below for an official summary and where to watch the movie.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism shows that surviving the teenage years isn’t easy for anyone, especially when they’re possessed by a demon. In 1988, best friends Abby (Fisher, Golden Globe-nominated actress of Eighth Grade) and Gretchen (Miller) decide to attend a party one night in the woods with their friends Glee (Ang) and Margaret (Kanu). While in the woods, Gretchen and Abby wander into an abandoned house, which leads to disastrous results.

When they arrive home, Abby realizes that a paranormal force attached itself to Gretchen during their party. Abby becomes so desperate to save her friend that she turns to Christian Lemon (Christopher Lowell), the youngest member of a troupe of mall bodybuilders for Jesus, for help.

After hearing Abby’s description, Christian is convinced Gretchen is possessed and confidently offers to conduct an exorcism. With Christian’s guidance, Abby sets out to compel the demon back to hell with little more than the power of friendship.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism is now playing in Prime Video.
