Pluto and Toho International to Debut 24-hour ‘Godzilla Channel’ on July 1

A new 24-hour Godzilla channel is set to debut on July 1, thanks to a collaboration between Pluto TV and Toho International. The channel will feature 30-some films that have been made over the years, including some that are not accessible on US streaming platforms, including the animated adventure Godzilla: The Series, from 1998 to 2000.

According to the Pluto TV release, “The lineup also includes the fan-favorite films Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs. Biollante directed by Kazuki Ōmori, which have been largely unavailable to US fans for streaming or purchase for many years.

The release pays tribute to the iconic heritage of the monster that began wreaking havoc on Tokyo in 1954, when the city was still recovering from the ravages of World War II. Godzilla was presented as a reptilian monster that had been energized by nuclear radiation, an allusion to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Pluto TV adds: “Emerging in 1954, Godzilla has become a global icon and symbol that has transcended time and pop culture. After debuting as a terror that descended upon Tokyo, Godzilla has fought numerous foes and gained new allies over several distinct eras.”

The official announcement continues: “While each film stands alone in its own moment in time, the evolution of Godzilla followed advancements and film and technology along with cultural trends, yet always staying rooted in the origins from 1954. Today, fans can celebrate one of the world’s most renowned entertainment characters with Godzilla channel collection and experience their favorite movie moments from the never-ending clash between kaiju and humankind.”

Some of the Godzilla titles that will be available on the new channel include All Monsters Attack (Godzilla’s Revenge), Godzilla 1999, Godzilla 2000, Godzilla Raids Again, Godzilla: King of the Monsters (1956), and Mothra. Also included are films depicting Godzilla being challenged by adversaries like Hedorah, Gigan, Megalon, Biollante, King Ghidor, and Mechagodzilla.
