Akira Toriyama, The Creator Of Dragon Ball, Dies At 68

Manga artist Akira Toriyama, who created such masterpieces as “Dragon Ball” and “Dr. Slump,” died of acute subdural hematoma on March 1, 2024 at the age of 68. A small funeral service has been held with Toriyama’s immediate family and that fans should avoid sending flowers or other gifts.

Toriyama made his debut in 1978 with “Wonder Island,” a read-only work in Weekly Shonen Jump. He began serializing “Dr. Slump,” which was made into an animated series in 1981 and became a huge success in Japan.

Then in 1984, “DRAGON BALL” was serialized. It has been adapted into an animated series and has become a work loved worldwide, fans shows their appreciation dressed up as Son Gokû or Bulma at the Come-Con. Besides his work as a manga artist, he is also active as a designer and was in charge of character design for the very popular “Dragon Quest” game series. In August 2023, his work “SAND LAND” was made into an animated film. Part of what made Toriyama such a visionary manga creator due to his immaculate taste of balancing of action and comedy. Though works like Dragon Ball and Sand Land contain many thrilling action scenes, as well as Toriyama’s great sense of humor remains the radiant soul of his work.

This is a sudden announcement,

Manga artist Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024 due to acute subdural hematoma at the age of 68.

He was 68 years old,

He must have had a lot of work he was passionately working on, and there must have been many things he still wanted to accomplish.

However, as a cartoonist, the deceased left behind a number of works.

He was supported by many people around the world and was able to continue his creative activities for more than 45 years.

I sincerely hope that the world of Akira Toriyama’s unique works will continue to be loved by everyone for many years to come.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your kindness and friendship during his lifetime.

The funeral service was held with only close relatives.

In accordance with his wish for tranquility, we ask that you please refrain from offering condolences, incense, offerings, flowers, or other offerings.

We also ask that you refrain from interviewing the family.

We have not yet decided on future farewell parties, etc., and will inform you as soon as they are decided.
