Anya Taylor-Joy Talks about Princess Peach Role in Super Mario Movie

The Queen’s Gambit and Last Night in Soho actress Anya Taylor-Joy says she is having a blast preparing for her role of Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. animated adventure. “Oh, it is so much fun. We started doing little bits and pieces of it already,” Taylor-Joy told ETOnline.

“The greatest part is that I get to say I am doing homework or work or research just by gaming, which is pretty great,” she added. “I have to. The fan base is so intense, of course I have to do it. It’s so much fun.” Illumination and Nintendo are adapting the classic video for the big screen. It is set for release in December 2022.

Jurassic World star Chris Pratt and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia scene-stealer Charlie Day will lend their voices to the nimble plumbers Mario and Luigi. The cast will also include Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike.

Black also seems enthusiastic about his new job. “Am I a Mario Bros. fan? Dude, I go way back,” he said in an interview with Consequence Heavy. “I go Donkey Kong! I was there when Nintendo was in short pants!” He added: “The main thing is: Hey Pratt-Pratt, I’m coming for you. Yeah, Bowser’s gonna eat you whole. I’mma barbecue you and eat you. Barbecue chicken [slurp]!”
