Actress Anya Taylor-Joy is very popular at the moment.
After winning numerous awards for her performance in the Netflix limited series The Queen’s Gambit – she’s also up for an Emmy Award for the role next month – Taylor-Joy has plenty on her plate, and she’s just added one more project that’s sure to be hotly anticipated. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Taylor-Joy shared that she is teaming up once again with director Robert Eggers on a remake of the classic 1992 horror film Nosferatu.
Taylor-Joy’s first film, the New England-set chiller The Witch, was directed by Eggers, and the two have already worked together again, on The Northman, which also stars Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, and Alexander Skarsgård, and recently wrapped production in Iceland, set for release next year. The Witch debuted to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015 and was released the following year by A24. Eggers also directed The Lighthouse, starring Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, which opened in 2019.
Taylor-Joy has taken on other horror roles, like in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split. Speaking about her passion for great characters, Taylor-Joy shared that “My favorite situations are when people are self-described weirdos and they feel comfortable. That’s all I want to do: make people feel like whatever they’re bringing to the table is a beautiful expression of their originality.” When asked about how busy she is, Taylor-Joy added, “All my friends are always like, ‘What are you doing?!? Take … a … break. But the roles are too good. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it if I didn’t say yes.
I wouldn’t cope. I’d rather just go for it and do my best.
”
In addition to her two collaborations with Eggers, Taylor-Joy will next be seen in Last Night in Soho, from director Edgar Wright and co-starring Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Diana Rigg, Rita Tushingham and Terence Stamp. The film makes its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and is slated for release on October 29th. Additionally, she will appear in The Menu, from director Mark Mylod, Laughter in the Dark from The Queen’s Gambit creator Scott Frank, and Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.
