‘The Crown’ Actor Emma Corrin Cast in ‘Deadpool 3′ and Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ Reimagining

Acclaimed English actor Emma Corrin has joined the cast of two anticipated films: Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 and Focus Features’ reimagining of the classic vampire movie, Nosferatu. The performer joined the second Deadpool sequel after Hugh Jackman revealed he’ll be reprising Wolverine for the first time since 2017’s Oscar-nominated Logan in the upcoming movie, Deadline is reporting.

Exact details behind Corrin’s [who is non-binary and uses they pronouns] character in Deadpool 3 are unknown at this time, other then it being the villain role. Besides Jackman, Corrin will also star alongside Ryan Reynolds, who will be reprising his role of the titular superhero.

The actor, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the original film and a Grammy for the first sequel’s soundtrack, celebrated Corrin’s casting in the series on Twitter. He wrote: “New addition to the family! The Deadpool family, for clarity. Which is just like a real family except with less swearing…. Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

The third installment in the Deadpool franchise will be helmed and produced by Shawn Levy. The filmmaker previously directed Reynolds in the 2021 action comedy, Free Guy, and last year’s sci-fi action comedy, The Adam Project.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who wrote the scripts for the series’ first two entries, will also pen the second follow-up’s script, after Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin previously penned a draft. Plot details about the upcoming superhero movie are still unknown.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will join Reynolds and Levy as producers on Deadpool 3, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024. The upcoming sequel will be the first time Marvel Studios will work closely with the lead actor and filmmakers on developing the project.

Deadpool 3 will also be the first R-rated installment in Disney’s MCU. Fox distributed the first two Deadpool movies prior to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.

Marvel has expressed interest in working with Corrin since December, but the performer has had an increasingly busy schedule. They recently signed on to join the A-list ensemble of Nosferatu, which will also star Lily Rose-Depp and Bill Skarsgard.

The role Corrin will play in Nosferatu has not yet been disclosed, either, Deadline is also reporting. The fantasy drama is a reimagining of the story of the alluring but equally horrifying titular blood-sucking creature.

The original Nosferatu feature is an unauthorized and unofficial screen adaptation of Bram Stoker’s groundbreaking 1897 novel, Dracula. As a result, almost all copies of the acclaimed silent German Expressionist horror film were destroyed upon its release, but were ultimately saved.

The book’s screen adaptation was released 100 years ago, in 1922. Nosferatu was written by Henrik Galeen and directed by F. W. Murnau. The drama follows the vampire as he sets out to buy a house in Germany. Along the way, he becomes enamored with his real-estate agent’s wife.

The film stared Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok, who’s commonly known as Nosferatu. The movie was given the title of Nosferatu, which is derived from an archaic Romanian name for vampire, following a copyright dispute with Stoker’s estate. As a result, the film’s vampire was renamed Count Orlok.

The upcoming feature is the second reimagining of Nosferatu; Murnau’s fellow German filmmaker, Werner Herzog, notably directed his own screen adaptation in 1979.

The new reimagining was written, and is being directed, by acclaimed genre filmmaker, Robert Eggers [The Witch]. He’s also serving as a producer on the feature with Jeff Robinson, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus.

Besides Corrin, Depp and Skarsgård, the drama will also star Nicholas Hoult and Willem Defoe. Skarsgård will play the ancient, nocturnal Transylvanian count who desires Depp’s haunted young character. Eggers and Defoe are reuniting on the film after they previously worked together on The Lighthouse and The Northman.

Nosferatu is being produced in part, and will be distributed, by Focus Features. It will begin shooting on location in Europe next month.

Corrin is best known for portraying Princess Diana in Netflix’s acclaimed television series, The Crown, for which they won a Golden Globe and were nominated for an Emmy Award. They also starred in last year’s romantic drama movies, My Policeman and Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Corrin is currently leading Virginia Woolf’s Orlando at London’s Garrick Theatre. They also recently filmed the FX murder mystery limited television series Retreat, which was created and executive produced by Zal Batmangli and Brit Marling.
