Former CNN journalist and producer Lisa Ling has been hired by CBS, says Neeraj Khemlani, the president and co-head of CBS News and Stations. Ling is best known as the host and producer of CNN’s series This is Life With Lisa Ling, until she was let go as a cost-cutting measure. She had also hosted and produced Take Out, a docuseries on the Asian American community for HBO Max. Earlier, she had been a correspondent for ABC’s Nightline and a co-host of The View.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Khemlani said: “Lisa delivers some of the most authentic, human and revealing interviews because of how she embeds with communities and the people she covers. It gives her and us a chance to communicate the pulse of the country and the world in a more experiential way.
”
Khemlani added: “From war coverage at Channel One News to the anchor table at The View to numerous cable series that showcase her immersive journalism, Lisa Ling is a multi-talented reporter and storyteller that we are thrilled to add to our roster of world-class Network talent.”
Ling was delighted with her new assignment, declaring “I can’t think of a better home for my style of reporting than CBS News, given its tradition of exceptional news gathering and thoughtful storytelling. I’m honored to be working with this venerable organization to tell the stories of people behind the headlines whose voices need to be heard.”
As Ling told People magazine: “Over the years, there have been so many stories that I’ve come across that may not have warranted a whole long-form hour. And so the opportunity to get to do these shorter pieces is really exciting because you know, the people I’m wanting to feature, their stories are as worthy of telling regardless of however long we have to be able to tell the story.”
The veteran reporter says she plans to tackle hot-button topics, such as the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on media, entertainment, and the workplace. In her CNN series, she had also created critically acclaimed pieces about alcoholism, mental illness, racism, and our fractured political landscape.
The 49-year-old Ling was born in Sacramento, California. Her mother was born in Taiwan and her father in Hong Kong. Her Guangzhou-born grandfather was one of the first Chinese students admitted to NYU in the 1930s.
