Lionsgate has unveiled trailer for the modern day Western, “Americana“, starring Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser, which opens August 22.

Sydney Sweeney is a country singer who is trying to get some money in the Americana trailer by concocting a risky scheme. Lionsgate has released Tony Tost’s crime film, which premiered at SXSW in 2023.  Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, Eric Dane, Zahn McClarnon, and Simon Rex also star in the contemporary Western movie. In Americana, several people come into contact as they search for a rare Native American artifact known as a ghost shirt.

“I got a really dumb idea I’d like to run by you,” Sweeney tells Hauser in the trailer. “I think something bad is going down.” Later, as violence ensues, Halsey exclaims, “Right now, I’m apparently in the middle of a goddamn murder spree.”

Tost, who is the showrunner for Peacock series Poker Face, makes his feature directorial debut with his own scripted movie. Alex Saks produced the movie.

The movie is produced by BRON Studios and Saks Pictures Company in association with Rhea Films and Hercules Film Fund / Creative Wealth Media. EPs are Aaron L. Gilbert, Steven Thibault, Alison-Jane Roney, Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis, Terry Dougas, and Jean-Luc de Fanti.

Sweeney will also be present in the Apple TV+ film, “Echo Valley” alongside Julianne Moore and the soon-to-be released Lionsgate thriller “The Housewife” opposite Amanda Seyfried.
