FX’s ‘Shōgun’ Garnered Four Awards from Television Critics Association

FX’s Shōgun will be receiving four awards at tonight’s 40th annual Television Critics Association awards ceremony, according to an advance announcement by the TCA.

The event, hosted by Wendi McLendon-Covey of The Goldbergs and St Denis Medical, will be the association’s first in-person ceremony in five years. More than 230 professional television journalists from the United States and Canada are members of the Television Critics Association.

In announcing the results, TCA’s president Jacqueline Cutler said: “It was a year of brilliant television, from an epic historical drama to a harrowing documentary. We’re thrilled to honor all who created these shows, often against great odds, as many were worked on during the pandemic and stopped for the strikes. Congratulations to all of the winners.”

Adapted from James Clavell’s novel set in feudal Japan, Shōgun won the following awards: Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Individual Achievement in Drama (for Anna Sawai), and Outstanding New Program.

Industry observers feel that Shōgun will also be a major contender at this year’s Emmy awards, with nominations scheduled to be revealed next week.

The only other program to receive more than one award at this year’s TCA ceremony will be Max’s Hacks, which captured the prizes for Outstanding Achievement and Individual Achievement in Comedy (for Jean Smart, who’d also won the award in 2021.

TCA’s Heritage Award will be presented to Twin Peaks, and its Career Achievement Award will be presented posthumously to the late Andre Braugher
