Jake Gyllenhaal will be reprising his role as Dalton in an upcoming sequel to Road House, says Amazon MGM Studio. He will be joining other cast members Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, B.K. Cannon, and Joaquim de Almeida.
The announcement was made by Amazon MGM’s Jennifer Salke during a presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday of this week. Salke was quoted in Variety as saying:“As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called Road House. Nearly 80 million viewers globally have watched [the film].. We like to watch these results like a baby.” Details about the plot and release dates have not yet been released.
Amazon Prime Video released Road House in March of 2024 as a remake of a 1989 version directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze. According to the synopsis of last year’s film, which was directed by Doug Liman: “In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.”
It’s also not clear whether Liman will be directing the upcoming sequel. Liman’s directorial credits include The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow.
The 2024 Road House film was scripted by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry and produced by Joel Silver.
Jake Gyllenhaal comes from a distinguished show-business family. He is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner, and the younger brother of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. He made his acting debut in City Slickers in 1991 and soon thereafter appeared in two of his father’s films, A Dangerous Woman and Homegrown. His breakthrough roles were as Homer Hickam in October Sky and as a troubled youth in Donnie Darko. He received an Oscar nomination for his role as Jack Twist in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain.
