Actor Marlon Wayans will be starring in Goat, an upcoming psychological horror film being developed by Universal in tandem with Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. In the film, Wayans will be playing the role of a veteran athlete who serves as a mentor for a younger man who aims to carry on the older man’s legacy.
Goat will be directed by Justin Tipping. The film is being produced by a quartet consisting of Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Jamal Watson. News of the project was revealed in an exclusive story by The Hollywood Reporter.
The 51-year-old Wayans made his acting debut in 1992, when he appeared with his siblings on the comedy show In Living Color. Most recently, Wayans has been involved in another locker-room film, Air, about Nike’s efforts to enlist a young Michael Jordan as a spokesperson for its sneakers. The cast of Air also included Ben Afffleck, Viola Davis, and Matt Damon.
Wayans also appeared in Respect, a biopic about Aretha Franklin, and in On the Rocks, Sofia Coppola’s movie for Apple-A24. The versatile performer is also touring as a stand-up comedian, having released Marlon Wayans: God Loves Me in March of 2023, his third special for HBO Max. His first comedy film, Woke-ish, had its premiere on Netflix in 2018.
For his part, the 38-year-old Justin Tipping cowrote and directed Kicks, a Focus Features film starring Mahershala Ali. For television, he directed The Chi, Flatbush Misdemeanor, Joe Vs Carole, Black Monday, and Dear White People.
Monkeypaw Productions was founded in 2012 by Jordan Peele. It has established a reputation as a producer of horror films such as Candyman, Get Out, Us, and Nope as well as the HBO series Lovecraft Country. In 2019, the company signed a five-year exclusive deal with Universal Pictures, which will distribute Goat. Peele is also the author of Get Out: The Complete Annotated Screenplay (2019) and was a contributor to Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror (2023).
