Lionsgate has given a promising update that Mel Gibson‘s “The Resurrection of Christmovies are almost complete.

Lionsgate’s President of International Helen Lee-Kim gave Deadline a major update on the big-budget The Resurrection Of The Christ movies, saying that Mel Gibson is now wrapping up the production.

“The faith-based audience is going to find this hugely appealing, but it’ll have really broad audience appeal too,” she added while making a prediction. The Resurrection Of The Christ Part One and Part Two have been in development for several years. However, based on Lee-Kim’s update, overall production is now nearing completion.

Jaakko Ohtonen(Jesus) and Mariela Garriga(Mary Magdalene) are the new cast for Gibson’s upcoming movies, which will feature a completely different cast. Peter is played by Pier Luigi Pasino, Kasia Smutniak is played by Kasia Smutniak, Riccardo Scamarcio is played by Riccardo Scamarcio, and Abraham is played by Rupert Everett.

The director has previously described parts of the movie as “some crazy stuff.” Gibson added, “I think in order to tell the story properly, you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell.”

The new movies are expected to have the same box office success as the 2004 film. The R-rated version original film generated over $620 million globally despite a $25 million production budget, as per The Numbers. Domestically, it earned over $370 million in North America.

As for the upcoming movies, Part One is set to release on Good Friday, March 26, 2027, while Part Two will arrive on Ascension Day, May 6, 2027.
