A24 has set a US release date for ”Materialists”, the all-star follow-up to Celine Song‘s “Past Lives” directorial debut. Rumors are flying that the company is planning a world premiere in Cannes a month earlier because the film is set to launch in theaters nationwide on June 13.

David Hinojosa of 2AM and Killer Films is the producer behind “Materialists“, which stars Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pasca. A young and ambitious New York City matchmaker is portrayed in the movie as being torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex.

Song’s debut feature “Past Lives“, starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, is a 24 year-old story about two childhood friends’ relationship, which premiered at Sundance in 2023.

A24 distributed the feature which went on to gather  five Golden Globes nominations, three BAFTA nominations, and Oscar nominations for both best picture and best original screenplay. It would earn more than $42 million globally.

A24’s latest feature with Ari Aster, “Eddington“, is being planned to premiere at Cannes and release in the summer, as revealed by Variety last month. Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler star in the electrifying thriller that centers around a small-town sheriff in New Mexico with ambitious aspirations.
