‘Superman’ Actress Margot Kidder’s Last Film ‘Robber’s Roost’ Resumes Production Following Her Death

Production on the psychological thriller, Robber’s Roost, which marks the final feature film performance by the late Emmy Award-winning actress, Margot Kidder, has resumed. As the drama’s shoot resumes, Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films has also signed on as an executive producer in his American feature debut, Variety is reporting.

Robber’s Roost also marks the feature film writing, directorial and producing debuts of debutant Galen Rosenthal. The filmmaker is currently shooting the project in Park City, Utah.

The thriller is set at the turn of the 20th century during the final days of the Wild West. Robber’s Roost tells the story of a woman who has lived alone in a desolate mountain cabin for decades until one day a mysterious person from her past emerges from the depths of a brutal winter.

Kidder, who’s best known for playing Lois Lane opposite Christopher Reeve in the first four Superman movies, as well as Kathy Lutz in the original 1979 Amityville Horror screen adaptation, died in May 2018 at the age of 69. At the time, production on Robber’s Roost was not yet completed.

As a result, Mexican actress Nathalia Acevedo, who made her feature film acting debut in helmer Carlos Reygadas’ 2012 drama, Post Tenebras Lux, stepped in to play a younger version of Kidder’s character to finish production on Robber’s Roost. The upcoming movie’s cast also includes David H. Stevens (Yellowstone).

Rosenthal has commented on resuming production on Robber’s Roost: “In these last three years in my journey to complete this film I’ve had to deal with the death of my lead actress, the destruction of my set by the worst winter in a decade, and then the COVID-19 pandemic. Basically, I have had the Apocalypse Now experience on a budget.”

Bora also chimed in on the thriller, and his decision to join the project as a producer: “I felt very inspired by the incredibly passionate approach of Galen, and so Robber’s Roost felt like the right project to set foot in the American market.”

In addition to Bora, the movie is also being produced by Dustin Puttuck, Matt Weight and Aron Govil. The producers are looking to secure a fall 2023 international release for Robber’s Roost.
