Taylor Swift is set to make her return to the big screen, as she’s the latest addition of the untitled upcoming period film from writer-director-producer, David O. Russell. She will appear alongside an ensemble cast of A-list actors, who will be led by Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington.
The historical drama will also feature Rami Malek, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon and Timothy Olyphant. Besides Bale, another frequent Russell collaborator, Robert De Niro, is also a part of the cast.
Plot details for the movie has not been revealed yet. However, shooting is said to have already been completed in Los Angeles. 20th Century Studios will distribute the New Regency film, but there’s no word yet when it will be released.
The drama marks Swift’s first acting role since the 2019 screen adaption of the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage musical, Cats, in which she played Bombalurina. She also starred in the 2014 screen adaptation of the classic young adult book, The Giver, after she made her feature film acting debut in director Garry Marshall’s 2010 ensemble romantic comedy, Valentine’s Day. The performer also had a voice role in the 2012 animated Dr. Seuss movie, The Lorax.
Swift was also the subject of the Netflix documentary, Miss Americana. The musician also made headlines earlier this year when she won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards for her hit record, Folklore, which was the highest-selling album in 2020. The LP was accompanied by the Disney+ concert documentary, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions.
The actress’ next on screen appearance also marks Russell’s return to making narrative films. He dominated theaters during the early-mid 2010s, during which he was nominated for five Academy Awards for his helming and writing efforts. His last movie was the 2015 biopic, Joy, which starred Jennifer Lawrence in the title role.
