The hot documentary Jane by Charlotte has been scooped up by Utopia, according to Deadline. The film is a look at Jane Birkin made by her daughter, actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, in her directorial debut.
Jane by Charlotte premiered in July at the Cannes Film Festival and was recently announced as part of the New York Film Festival Spotlight section.
Birkin is an actress, model, singer-songwriter and fashion icon with many credits to her name.
Her daughter Gainsbourg, whose father is Serge Gainsbourg, is best known for films such as Antichrist and Nymphomaniac, and examines the relationship between mother and daughter in the new film, which is set for a U.S. theatrical release sometime in 2022. Gainsbourg produced the film along with Mathieu Ageron, Maxime Delauney and Romain Rousseau.
Danielle DiGiacomo, Head of Content for Utopia, negotiated the deal and had positive words to share about the project: “Charlotte Gainsbourg’s artful and intimate portrait of her mother, the cultural icon Jane Birkin, is a compelling and layered look at the woman behind the mythology, as well as a deeply touching love story between mother and daughter; Utopia is honored to be able to work with Charlotte to bring this gem to Jane’s existing fans and awaken a generation of new ones.”
