Paramount Pictures has dropped a trailer for Apartment 7A, a prequel to Roman Polanski’s 1968 horror classic Rosemary’s Baby.
Terry Gionoffrio, who is a promising young dancer, dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, played by Julia Garner from Ozark. After sustaining a catastrophic injury, an elder, affluent couple (Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally) welcomes her into their home in the luxurious apartment building Bramford.
It appears that all of her dreams are finally coming true when a Broadway producer (Jim Sturgess, Across the Universe) offers her another chance to fame. Following an evening where she couldn’t fully remember, she begins to doubt the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that evil is lurking not only in Apartment 7A, but also in Bramford itself.
The prequel is set in 1965 New York City, and details what happened in the Bramford building before Rosemary (played by Mia Farrow in the 1968 film) moved in. Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes starred in Rosemary’s Baby as a young couple trying to start a family, but are tormented by their strange neighbors. Paramount also produced the 1968 film.
In the trailer, “There’s something wrong with these people,” Garner says ominously in the trailer that shows her character’s concerns mounting. Per the official logline: “When a struggling, young dancer suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected, older couple promises her a shot at fame.”
Directed by Natalie Erika James from a script by Skylar James and Christian White. Besides Garner, Wiest and McNally, the film also stars Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka).
The film will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ on Sept. 27, ahead of the Halloween season.
