The official trailer for “Disclosure Day,” directed by Steven Spielberg, was released by Universal on Thursday. It is his return to the sci-fi thriller genre that brought us “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “ET“.

Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson are highlighted in the trailer, which also offers a more clear perspective of the story written by David Koepp.

O’Connor’s character is granted access to government secrets about the existence of beings outside of Earth. There are black-and-white flashes in the trailer that hint at Roswell, NM. Blunt’s meteorologist, who begins speaking in tongues while on air, is among those who reveal clues.

Firth’s character plans to become a whistleblower and share the secrets with all (full disclosure), which he intends to stop. “The truth will upend all established orders across the entire world,” Firth says to O’Connor. “If you do this, there’s nothing you can undo.”It’s obvious that it sets up a Spielberg competition to determine which side is the winner.

Releasing in theaters on June 12, Disclosure Day‘s plot has largely been kept under wraps. But the logline is as follows: If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.
