Amazon MGM Studios has announced the teaser trailer for the upcoming biopic “Madden,” which will have Nicolas Cage playing the role of NFL coach and commentator John Madden and Christian Bale playing the role of NFL owner Al Davis.
David O. Russell is the director, producer, and writer of the project, and he has also directed “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook“. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat, and Matthew Budman are also worked on as producers.
Madden, who died in 2021, was the larger-than-life head coach of the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s. For three decades, his presence was a staple of television football coverage. His name was also added to the well-known video game franchise.
The movie is based on the 1970s during Madden’s coaching period and when Davis was the Oakland Raiders owner. The presentation will demonstrate how Madden was forced to leave coaching due to health concerns, helped create the Madden NFL video game series, and achieved later success as a broadcaster and pitchman.
John Mulaney as EA founder Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Russell is directing from a script he co-wrote based on an earlier draft by Cambron Clark.
“Madden” is on track for releasing on November 26th 2026.
