This Is Spinal Tap” and its upcoming sequel “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues have been acquired by Bleecker Street for US distribution. The distribution deal was brokered by John Burnham for Atlas Artists, Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy for Bleecker Street.

Both films directed by Rob Reiner, and Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprise their roles as the fictional English heavy metal band Spinal Tap in the most recent one. The producers have provided a synopsis for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues“, which depicts the band reunited after a 15-year break for one final concert. “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” is set to open in theaters nationwide on Sept. 12, and Reiner will once again portray documentarian Martin ‘Marty’ DiBergi, with cameos by Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood.

“The opportunity to work with Rob Reiner and the brilliant minds behind the original “This Is Spinal Tap, and to be part of a film that has resonated with so many,” Andrew Karpen, CEO of Bleecker Street, and Kent Sanderson, president of Bleecker Street, said in a joint statement. “This Is Spinal Tap isn’t just a movie — it’s a cultural touchstone that pioneered the mockumentary genre and left an indelible mark on both film and music. Returning to this world through Spinal Tap II is an extraordinary chance to celebrate its legacy while creating something fresh for both new and devoted audiences,” they added.

The cast for the sequel includes Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman and Chris Addison. Bleecker Street also plans a U.S. theatrical release this summer for the restored edition of “This Is Spinal Tap, to be followed by digital and streaming play.

Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” is produced by Reiner, Michele Reiner and Matthew George and financed by Castle Rock Entertainment. Derrick J. Rossi, Hernan Narea, Jonathan Fuhrman and Christopher H. Warner share executive producer credits.
