A24 premiered the first trailer for Marty Supreme, a cinematic mystery that is one of the year’s greatest, featuring Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) and filmmaker Josh Safdie (Uncut Gems).

The story of Marty Mauser (Chalamet) is a unique work that is set in the 1950s penguin culture, telling the story of a young man with a dream that no one respects who goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. Sources have long indicated that the project draws loose inspiration from the story of Marty Reisman, a professional ping pong player.

The trailer commences with Chalamet occupying the bed in his royal hotel suite and reaching out to a movie star played by Gwyneth Paltrow to inform her that he is also a performer.

The ensemble of Marty Supreme is very diverse. The list of other performers that have been announced includes musician Tyler, The Creator, magician Penn Jillette, Fran Drescher, Sandra Bernhard, and filmmaker Abel Ferrara, to name only a few.

Safdie directed from a script written with Ronald Bronstein, with the pair producing alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24.

The Safdie brothers are adept at casting non-actors in significant roles and ensuring their success on screen. Uncut Gems shows NBA star Kevin Garnett playing himself and has one of the best scenes in the movie. The cinematographer for the film, Darius Khondji, has asserted that the film features about 140 non-actors.
