A new trailer for “The Roses“, directed by Jay Roach, has released, which is a reimagining of Danny DeVito‘s 1989 divorce-themed comedy, “The War of the Roses.”
Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner were the main actors in the 1989 film about a wealthy couple – Oliver and Barbara Rose – who have a marriage that seems to be perfect, the material possessions are the focal point of an outrageous and bitter divorce battle as it starts to crumble.
Douglas, Turner, and DeVito’s third collaboration marked the release of that project, which they had previously accomplished with 1984’s “Romancing the Stone“. Despite having a $26 million budget, ‘Roses’ was well received and earned $160 million worldwide.
Tony McNamara is behind the new version, having written for “Poor Things” and ‘The Favorite”. Additionally, McNamara developed Hulu’s “The Great“.
The narrative centers on Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch), the picture-perfect couple who have achieved success, great children, and an envied sexual life.
The ideal family’s facade is a tinderbox of competition and resentment that is ignited when Theo’s professional dreams fall apart, In the trailer, the comedy seems to be more broad, with a lighter tone than the original.
The film also stars Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg, Ncuti Gatwa, Sunita Mani, Zoë Chao, Jamie Demetriou and Belinda Bromilow. Directed by Jay Roach, screenplay by Tony McNamara, produced by: Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, Ed Sinclair, Tom Carver.
The film opens September 1st.
