Jodie Foster to Star in Her First Major Television Role on True Detective: Night Country

Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster has signed on to lead and executive produce the fourth iteration of HBO’s “True Detective” anthology drama which is titled, “True Detective: Night Country”. The 59-year-old actress who shot to fame as a child star in Disney hits such as ‘Freaky Friday‘ and ’Taxi Driver” before going on to Oscar-winning films roles like “The Accused” and “Silence of the Lambs.”  Foster will play Detective Liz Danvers in the series. 

The story begins with the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro who are looking to solve the case in the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska. The pair will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

Issa Lopez(“Tigers Are Not Afraid”) will pen the scripts with Alan Page Arriaga (“Shining Girls”) also on board as a writer. Lopez will direct multiple episodes including the pilot.

Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins along with Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryak, Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will all executive produce. Cary Joji Fukunaga and creator Nic Pizzolatto are also joined as the executive producers but aren’t creatively involved in the new series.

This will mark as Foster’s first regular live action TV series in almost 50 years, Foster who has not appeared in a regular role on television since “Paper Moon” back in 1974. As a child, she had guest appearances on series like “Gunsmoke,” “My Three Sons,” and “Paper Moon,” as well as had voice acting in “The Simpsonsand “Frazier.”
