Good Luck to You, Leo Grande premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and is screening in the Spotlight Narrative section of the Tribeca Festival ahead of its streaming debut on Hulu. This warm and entertaining comedy follows Nancy (Emma Thompson) as she struggles to travel far out of her comfort zone in her hotel room meeting with sex worker Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack).
This terrific film comes from director Sophie Hyde and screenwriter Katy Brand, who collaborated to tell a story that felt authentic and positively represented the sex worker industry. I had the chance to speak with Hyde and Brand about the process of telling this story, working with Thompson and McCormack, and how Hyde’s two previous films, Animals and 52 Tuesdays, relate to her latest work.
