HBO and Grammy winning singer-songwriter The Weekend has released a new first teaser trailer from the The Idol, the new series from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The series stars The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp.
Co-created by The Weekend, Levinson and Reza Fahim, “The Idol” is set against the backdrop of the music industry. The plot follows a self-help guru and cult leader(The Weekend) who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol(LilyRose Depp).
The series underwent a creative overhaul in late April. with director Amy Seimetz and actress Suzanna Son exiting, Production had already filmed multiple episodes at the time of Seimetz’s departure and sources indicated that the show would be reworked to fit a new creative direction.
Alongside Depp and Tesfaye, Troye Sivan, Suzanna Son and Steve Zissis were announced as series regulars on the show with Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga and Anne Heche in recurring roles.
Originally, The Idol was thought to have received a seven-episode order as of its April changes. HBO has not updated that status.
