Actress Jodie Comer is reportedly in talks to star in Amazon’s upcoming series Blade Runner 2099.

The news was revealed by Jeff Sneider on this week’s episode of The Hot Mic. Sneider was heard saying that Comer was eager to work with director Ridley Scott again after having appeared in his production of The Last Duel. She was also recently acclaimed for her appearance in the film Free Guy, also in 2021.

Details about the Blade Runner 2099 project were not forthcoming; however, it is known that Silka Luisa will be writing the script and serving as executive producer.  What is known is that Amazon Studios officially gave the go-ahead to the TV adaptation last year.

The original Blade Runner film debuted in 1982, and Blade Runner 2049 was released in 2017.

Blade Runner 2049, which starred Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos in a reprise of their original roles, was directed by Denis Villeneuve. That film also included quite an array of performers, including Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, and Dave Bautista.

Vernon Sanders, who heads global television projects for Amazon Studios, had earlier issued this statement: “The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers. We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Echoing Sanders’s comments, Alcon Entertainment’s co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson stated: “We are delighted to continue our working relationship with our friends at Amazon. And we are beyond excited to continue to extend the Blade Runner canon into a new realm with the provocative storyline that Silka has created. … So, we recognize that we have a very high bar to meet with this next installment. Together with Silka and our partners at Amazon, and Scott Free Productions, we hope that we can live up to that standard and delight audiences with the next generation of Blade Runner.
