Jackie Chan will be portraying a fictionalized version of himself in Panda Plan, an action-comedy that will focus on his efforts to save an endangered baby panda.
The upcoming film will be directed by Zhang Luan, who gave us Song of Youth and Give Me Five, and produced by Mandarin Motion Pictures and Wishart Media. The movie will be making its sales debut at next week’s American Film Market in Los Angeles.

According to the official synopsis, “The film centers on a rare baby panda with a dark circle around just one eye, who becomes a worldwide sensation when he’s born at China’s Noah Zoo. But when a Middle Eastern tycoon dispatches international mercenaries to kidnap the zoo’s baby pandas, Chan, playing a version of himself as an international action star, is forced to get involved in a rescue mission.

As a result, continues the synopsis, “A thrilling and hilarious panda defense battle then breaks out in this wildlife park.”
Also starring in Panda Plan will be Shi Ce (of Hi, Mom), Wei Xiang (of Full River Red), Hah Yanbo (of The Super Family), and Andy Friend (of The Wandering Earth 2).
The 69-year-old Chan recently appeared in Ride On, a Chinese production, and played opposite John Cena in Hidden Strike, a U.S.-China co-production directed by Scott Waugh.

Chan also provided the voice of the Splinter character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for Paramount Pictures. The actor is also voicing the character of Master Monkey for the sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Parade 4.
The multitalented Chan—he’s known for his martial arts expertise and his acrobatic (often slapstick) fighting style as well as his vocalizations—has appeared in more than 150 films since his debut, at the age of eight, in Yen Chun’s 1964 offering Big and Little Wong Ting Bar. In 1972, he appeared as an extra and stunt double in Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury. His first major breakthroughs were in the 1978 films Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow and Drunken Master.
Panda Plan is already in production and is scheduled for release sometime during 2024.
