A new poster for Joker: Folie à Deux has just surfaced, depicting Joaquin Phoenix romantically dipping Lady Gaga in a dance scene from the film, which is scheduled to debut in theaters on October 10. The first advance trailer for the movie will appear on April 9.

The poster shows the formally attired couple—he in a tuxedo and she in an elegant white gown—waltzing under a spotlight. Phoenix will play the Joker while Lady Gaga will take on the role of Dr Harleen Quinzel, also known as Harley Quinn. Among the other actors appearing in the upcoming Joker sequel will be Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.

In the first Joker movie, audiences witnessed the transformation of a washed-up comedian into a serial killer who wreaked havoc in Gotham City to the consternation of Batman and other law-abiding characters. Plot details have not yet been released for the upcoming film.

The new Joker movie is a sequel to the wildly successful 2019 film that earned an Oscar for Phoenix. Directed by Todd Phillips, who helmed the earlier picture, Joker: Folie à Deux has been rumored to be a musical. Variety has reported that the upcoming production would be “mostly a jukebox musical” comprising previously recorded songs that include “That’s Entertainment,” the iconic number rendered by Judy Garland in The Band Wagon.
Lady Gaga had earlier played the part of Garland in Bradley Cooper’s 2018 biopic A Star Is Born, following in the stardust trail of performers who had previously appeared in that role, including Janet Gaynor, Barbra Streisand, and Garland herself.

Todd Phillips’s early documentary Frat House, won a top prize at Sundance in 1998. After coming to prominence in the 2010s for The Hangover film series, he directed the first Joker film in 2019.
